Featured Athlete | NCAA Football
Athletes,
Hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We’ve got an awesome Athlete Interview for today’s newsletter. We got a chance to interview Bryan Massey, a safety for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs. In SMU’s 2022 season, Bryan registered 40 tackles, led the team with nine kick returns for 205 yards, and was a Preseason Sports Illustrated Second Team All-American amongst numerous other accolades.
Check out our interview below:
BRYAN MASSEY INTERVIEW
TWU: Our go-to first question, if you had to pick one song to listen to five minutes before every game for the rest of your football career, what would it be?
TWU: What’s your style for your pre-game music? Are you listening to other peoples’ playlists? Mixing it up from game to game?
Mostly rap, and I use my own music.
TWU: What’s the atmosphere like in the SMU locker room? Is everyone headphones in listening to their own music, or is there music playing over a speaker? (or both)
Both. Somebody would hop on the aux, and others have their own music in.
TWU: Who is the “music guy” on the team? To put it differently, if you had to pick one guy to play his music before the game, who would you pick?
I would say Brandon Crossley or Isaiah Nwokobia. Either of them have good taste in music.
TWU: Who is in charge of making SMU’s pre-game warm-up? Is it the university, or do guys on the team get a say in what’s being played?
Our strength coaches ask what we want to listen to, and they throw in some of their own bangers also.
TWU: Besides listening to music, do you have any other pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I don’t really have any superstitions or rituals. Music does the trick for me.
TWU: What game are you most looking forward to in this upcoming season?
Either Oklahoma or TCU.
TWU: Congrats on receiving all of your accolades last year. What are you doing in the offseason to prepare yourself for the upcoming year?
I’m most definitely trying to get back to how I was my sophomore year as I feel it was my best year, so I’m working towards that as my goal.
TWU: Does the music you’re listening to training in the summer change from in-season?
No, not really. It’s more I add new music to my playlist.
TWU: What has been your favorite game so far in your career at SMU?
I would say it’s a tie between Navy, Houston, or TCU my sophomore year.
TWU: Awesome. Thank you a ton man and best of luck this season, we’ll be rooting for you!
